About the author

Bill is a father, a husband, an author, and a businessman. His early jobs included janitor, gas station attendant, and grocery bagger.

He wrote Your Mountain Is Waiting for his sons as they were each setting out on their own paths. What began as a collection of stories and advice became a book about finding purpose, taking initiative, building friendships, and making a difference. These are questions Bill continues to explore in his own life, including his work in clean technology.

Bill and his family have traveled around the world, but their favorite place is a small community in North Georgia full of farms, wonderful people, a big lake, and lots of trails. He is fortunate to have many wonderful friends and neighbors, all of whom appreciate his willingness to install their WiFi networks and recommend which computer products to buy.

Bill’s career spans technology, investing, and clean energy. He has led three technology companies and held leadership roles at IBM. He holds degrees from North Carolina State University and Harvard Business School. He is also the author of Freeing Energy, a book about building cleantech startups.
